The Fallacy of Biofuels

advertisement

Away from the glow of wishful thinking, it seems there are a couple of serious problems with biofuels: 1. it requires turning over the entire U.S. arable cropland from growing food to switchgrass or what-have-you for ethanol 2. the process requires so much energy it is net-negative, i.e. requires more energy than it produces.

Among other things.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Mr. Smith also covers geopolitical tension in this essay as well.

It's worth your time to check it out!

I'm hungry. :)

My car is a flexfuel car.

Still hungry. And broke.

Advice? Look for a fast bicycle. More money for food and the wallet. Plus you stay in shape!

I think a motorcycle would be more in order for me. I am in outside sales and my territory is HUGE. I live in Houston. I couldn't make those all important numbers on a bike...and I do love my job (I know -- strange, but I am even weirder when you get to know me). I actually like to get up for my job most mornings so I'd rather not change it. I guess I was just pointing out that the biofuel thing is just a huge massive lie perpetuated by those who think that we little people (regardless of our political leanings) are unwashed, unannointed, and frankly, too stupid to see it.

The funniest thing about your comment is (and I've done the same) you actually crunched the numbers in your head to see if a bike could work!

Or at least that's the impression I got.

No telecommuting in the outside sales market?

I have indeed (crunched the nums).

I have to see physicians personally every single day. They need to be trained and reminded, etc. Go figure. I totally respect them and honor them. That is why they need me to remind them of things that aren't in the forefront of their day. They are performing a much more worthwhile job. I am just helping them do it better.

The green movement is starving some folks in Africa because they don't want to 'endanger' the wildlife by adding infrastructure. What? Blood is shooting out of my ears and eyes!

The most horrible reality of the green movement, as the politicos have demonstrated, is that it will be used as an economic weapon. It will pick winners and losers. But instead of money lost and folks out of work, it will determine what countries get industry, food, water, so the "advanced" nations can continue as they have.
